Russell D. DeVoe (1929 - 2015) was a native of Omaha. He graduated from Omaha North High School in 1947. He served in the Nebraska National Guard from 1950 - 1953. Mr. DeVoe held positions at Omaha Public Power, Olson Brothers Sheet-Metal, Cook Paint & Varnish, and Lincoln Welding. He worked for State Farm Insurance and then 17 years at Central National Insurance as a claims manager, retiring as vice president. Mr. DeVoe was a member of the Confederate (now Commemorative) Air Force and worked on a C-47 cargo and B-25 bomber plane at the SAC Museum at Offutt Air Force Base.
Alice Zoe DeVoe (1932 - 2010) was born in Centerville, Iowa. Alice was a member of the Questors Antique Club, Omaha Garden Clubs, and Stratus Seekers. Alice was the owner of Isabelle Antique and Gifts and a licensed antique dealer. She was also a 25-year employee of the airline industry. Alice loved animals and was active with both the local and national Humane Society.
Alice and Russ were both passionate about aviation and they were both pilots. They cared about giving to those who worked with their hands in technical areas. They were interested in life-long learning and bettering themselves. They were compassionate, giving and caring neighbors and friends. Alice and Russ were married for almost 53 years.
This scholarship may be used for tuition and educational technology.
Scholarship Criteria:
- Financial need may be considered, but is not required
- Must be a student attending MCC for the first time
- Must be a former MCC Career Academy or MCC Dual-Credit student while in high school in Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy or Washington counties in Nebraska.
- Full or part-time student
Scholarships are usually offered during the spring and fall quarters. Scholarship availability varies depending on donor giving.
