Jesuit Father George Sullivan retired from Creighton Preparatory School in 2015 after serving his alma mater 18 years, including six as president.
Father Sullivan taught theology at Creighton Prep from 1975 to 1978, obtained a law degree from Creighton University in 1981 and the next year was chosen as the 27th president of Creighton Prep, holding that position until 1988.
He served as vice president of the Gregorian University Foundation and lived in Los Angeles from 1989 until returning to Creighton Prep in 2006, where until his retirement he as assistant to the president. In that role, he helped the school raise nearly $37 million for its Keeping the Promise Campaign supporting program and facility initiatives.
He served on the board of directors at New Cassel Retirement Center in Omaha since 2008 and was on the Priests’ Council of the Archdiocese of Omaha from 2009 to 2011. Father Sullivan also is known for his love of history and large collection of political buttons, a hobby he began in 1960.
The Fr. George R. Sullivan, SJ Scholarship is available to graduating Creighton Prep seniors wishing to attend Metropolitan Community College. A letter of recommendation from a Creighton Prep guidance counselor should accompany the application. Student must have a 2.0 high school GPA or higher at the time of application and financial need is required. Scholarship is available to full or part-time students. If awarded, student must meet with an academic advisor throughout the academic year. Scholarship pays for tuition and fees and is refundable.
Scholarship Criteria:
- Must be a graduating Creighton Prep senior
- Minimum GPA 2.0
- Provide a letter of recommendation from a Creighton Prep guidance counselor
- Financial need is required
Scholarships are usually offered during the spring and fall quarters. Scholarship availability varies depending on donor giving.
