The Scott C. Hoyt Memorial Scholarship was established in 2019 to honor the life and legacy of Scott Hoyt, 1945 - 2019.
His entire life, Scott loved to read, learn and teach. Scott served as an Air Force linguist in Vietnam from 1967 - 1971. He knew first-hand the difficulties of returning to civilian life and pursuing an academic career while working, yet he also knew the rewards. He worked as a lawyer for most of his life, but once retired, found great joy in teaching GED courses at Metropolitan Community College and the Douglas County Jail. An MCC colleague remarked, “Scott taught all levels of GED students, but was particularly gifted at helping them master the higher level functions required on the test and attain the self-confidence they needed to successfully pass the exam.” Scott truly delighted in being a part of his students’ journeys and celebrated their hard work and successes.
It is the wish of his family to support promising MCC students in his name.
