Employee Giving Campaign
Frequently Asked Questions
Metropolitan Community College Foundation
What is the MCC Foundation and how does it support students, faculty and staff?
Since 1977, the Metropolitan Community College Foundation has advanced the College’s comprehensive mission by creating community awareness, building and nurturing meaningful relationships, and connecting donors with giving opportunities that match their interests. As a separate 501(c)(3) corporation, the MCC Foundation is the College’s primary vehicle for charitable giving. With the partnership of generous individuals, foundations, corporations and service organizations, we advocate to support:
-
MCC student scholarships
-
MCC program growth funds
-
MCC faculty or staff development
-
Capital projects for state-of-the-art facilities
-
Textbooks and classroom supplies
-
Facility and equipment needs
Why is the College investing in facilities and scholarships like never before?
Simply stated: because the need has never been greater. Technology and workforce needs are rapidly changing and demand our nimble response. As the economy fluctuates, more students experience financial challenges. To address this growing need, MCC puts innovation at the center of how we deliver education. Our students and communities deserve access to state-of-the art facilities, cutting-edge technologies, advanced curricula, workforce-ready skills training, and the personal touch of a low faculty-to-student ratio. That’s the “promise” we can deliver together.
MCC is a publicly funded institution, why are we asking for private support?
It takes a team to help students succeed. State appropriations, tuition/fees, and property taxes only cover a portion of what it costs to operate the College. Your gifts are needed to help ensure student success and quality of services. Private support can also add a margin of excellence that public dollars cannot.
How do I buy a brick for the Employee Legacy Court?
The Fort Omaha Campus now has a beautiful, open green space with plenty of outdoor seating. Purchase a brick or bench plaque to engrave with a personal message or name of your choice. Your commemorative brick or bench plaque will support the MCCF Matching Scholarship Fund and also serves as a lasting tribute of your commitment to the students of MCC.
Bricks may be ordered by mailing the Foundation a printed order form. If you’d like to receive a copy of the printed Employee Legacy Court brochure/order form, contact us at 531-MCC-2346 or via email.
Employee involvement in Employee giving campaign
How are employees involved in the employee giving campaigns?
Following best practices of major gift campaigns, the Employee Giving Campaign begins with ‘family first;’ we give before we invite the community to join us. All MCC full-time and part-time faculty and staff are invited to direct their charitable giving to financially support MCC students and programs.
Many MCC employees choose to make their gift through payroll deduction. With this option, you can choose to automatically renew until you notify us to make a change. For those interested in making a gift through payroll deduction, with your first deduction starting Jan. 15, please fill out your payroll deduction form by Dec. 22. Please note that credit card gifts can only be accepted online.
As an alternative to cash gifts, you can also support the Foundation through a gift of securities (stocks, bonds), real estate, gifts in-kind, life income plans (trusts), life insurance policies, bequests and wills. Just contact the MCCF team if you’re interested in these other approaches.
The MCC family is also invited to participate in enhancing the Employee Legacy Court, a distinct installation included in the Fort Omaha Campus expansion project. Purchasing one (or more) custom-engraved bricks in the Employee Legacy Court will give us all a way to recognize those who have worked so hard to make MCC a great place to work and learn over the years.
Every gift, no matter the size, is greatly appreciated.
I give to students every day though my job. Why should I support financially, too?
Thank you for all that you do to serve MCC students. You make a positive impact on the lives of our students through your daily service, and that is something to celebrate. Chances are, you also see examples every day of how we could do more together—examples of students who might have to drop a class if they don’t have money for books or situations where training equipment is outdated but the budget can’t support upgrades. Because you are so close to the College mission, you’re also in the position to experience your gift’s impact firsthand.
A strong foundation of giving within the College sends the important message that we, as a team, are committed to our students and our community. Our MCC teamwork demonstrates our commitment to delivering the promise of student success and inspires the broader community to invest as well.
We firmly believe that charitable giving is a personal choice. So, if you prefer not to give to the Employee Giving Campaign at this time, we appreciate your consideration and all that you do to serve students to enable learning and success. Our goal is to make sure that every MCC employee has the opportunity to give if they wish.
What is MCC 1200?
MCC 1200 is a special designation that honors and recognizes MCC employees who have contributed $1,200 or more during their tenure at the College. There’s no need to enroll; the Foundation office will keep track of your gifts and award the designation to celebrate your commitment to student success. Why “1200,” you ask? MCC in Roman Numerals is 1200. Every MCC 1200 employee will receive an honorary lapel pin they can wear during the Employee Giving Campaign, or anytime they want to be a champion for student support.
Information about my donation
Is my gift to the MCC Foundation tax-deductible?
Yes, the MCC Foundation is a federally recognized 501(c)(3) public charity; therefore, your contribution may be tax-deductible. Please check with your tax-adviser to find out more. By the last working day in January, an annual charitable contribution receipt will be sent to all MCC Foundation donors who choose to invest in student success through a gift in the previous calendar year.
Can I make an anonymous gift? What information is shared about my donation?
Yes. First, the Foundation does not share gift amounts or purposes with anyone outside of our office. If you would like your donation to be anonymous, your gift will be acknowledged with a receipt, but your information will not be listed publicly. To choose this option, indicate on the giving page or complete the payroll deduction form whether or not you wish to be listed in Foundation publications, such as annual reports.
I have always given to a fund that is important to me. Can I still do that?
Yes, we believe in matching people with their giving interests. You can designate your gift to a variety of areas, including one (or several) of the existing scholarships. You decide how much and where you want to make your impact! An option is also available to select “Unrestricted Fund” so your gift can be applied to the area(s) in most need.
How will I know my gift is making an impact?
As an MCC employee, you will see the impact firsthand on our campuses and centers. Campaign updates will be posted on MyWay and in email communication. Each year, the MCC Foundation publishes an Annual Report that details donations pledged and disbursed to support students, programs, faculty, and facilities.
If you choose to contribute to an MCC Foundation scholarship, you will be invited to attend the annual scholarship reception to meet the student recipients.
What if I change my mind about how my donation is used, or how do I find out what fund(s) I’ve supported in the past?
You may change your mind at any time by contacting the Foundation office via written correspondence (e.g. email, intercampus mail or postal mail). Though previous donations cannot be redirected, future donations beginning the date the correspondence is received will honor your new designation.
If you’d like to receive information about your past giving to the Foundation, please contact the Foundation office at 531-MCC-2346 or email us and we can easily find out for you.
Do I need to do anything if I chose to have an automatic renewal payroll deduction or if I made a multi-year pledge?
No. You only need to contact us if you want to make a change to your gift. Your initial pledge ensures your participation during the timeframe you selected.
How will my gift be recognized?
All employee gifts made prior to the end of the fiscal year (June 30) will be listed in that year’s MCC Foundation Annual Report. Please record your name on the pledge form as you would like it to be listed. Feel free to include the name of your spouse or partner should he or she also wish to be recognized. If you would prefer not to be recognized for your gift, simply check the box requesting that we keep your gift anonymous.
Other ways to give
I’d love to give a lasting gift, but don’t have the means right now. Can I add a bequest to my will or include MCCF as a beneficiary on my IRA?
Yes, a bequest or planned gift is one of the easiest gifts to make. With the help of an advisor, you can include language in your will or trust specifying a gift to be made to family, friends or MCC Foundation as part of your estate plan to leave an ongoing legacy.
A retirement asset, like an IRA account, makes an excellent bequest as well. By designating the MCC Foundation as the beneficiary of all or part of your IRA (using a beneficiary designation form provided by your custodian), the full value of the gift is transferred tax-free at your death and your estate receives an estate tax charitable deduction.
Please visit our planned giving site for more information, or call the MCCF staff to talk about the impact you wish to make. Be sure to consult with your advisor for personal tax and estate planning guidance.
My spouse/partner works for an employer who matches their employees’ charitable gifts. Will MCCF accept these kinds of matching gifts?
Yes, contact the Human Resources department at your spouse or partner’s company to obtain the matching gift form. Then complete the form and return it to the Foundation office (FOC 12S) along with your pledge. Many employers match at a 1:1 ratio; therefore, you can potentially double your impact. It is best to contact their Human Resources department before making your donation to ensure you are following their guidelines when making the gift.
Can I make a gift jointly with my spouse who also works at MCC?
Yes. Please mark the payroll deduction form to indicate that your gift is a joint gift, and you and your spouse/partner will receive credit for the gift.
