MCC offering trade camps for kids this summer

The College for Teens program at Metropolitan Community College will have seven trade camps available this summer for youths ages 13-17. The camps are designed to introduce trade fields, giving high school and middle school students an understanding of possible career paths that are in high demand. The week-long camps will be offered at MCC locations throughout the Omaha metropolitan area and focus on welding, car and engine repair, plumbing and more.

The Explore Trade Careers Camp, June 24-28 at the Fort Omaha Campus, will allow students to explore the possibilities of working in a highly skilled trade. During the first four days, students will rotate through hands-on stations and demonstrations focusing on construction, auto and manufacturing. The last day will be a competition day with fun activities testing what each student has learned.

Make Sparks Fly, Welding Camp, June 10-14 or July 8-12 at the Fort Omaha Campus, will serve as a stepping stone for students to discover if welding is a possible career path. Students will learn safety and the basics to cut and weld steel, as well as how to design and create unique metal art pieces to take home.

Each camp is $5. To register or for a full list of available camps, visit mccneb.edu/ce or call 531-MCC-5437.
