Media alert: Local businesses, MCC to celebrate grand opening of Code School tonight
What: Metropolitan Community College will host a grand opening event to celebrate the new MCC Code School. Kiewit Corporation, Mutual of Omaha and other Omaha area organizations have joined MCC, creating strategic public-private partnership that will develop tech talent in order to meet the needs of the companies’ growing demands. Employees of the four locally-based organizations will go through the Code School curriculum developed by the MCC Workforce Innovation Division.
When: Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 5:30 p.m.
Where: The Mastercraft building, 1111 N. 13th St.
Background: The College revealed plans for the MCC Code School earlier this year. The nine-month, 20-hour per week noncredit program will prepare students for an Agile work environment and emulate best-practices. Students will be given a job description and will undergo performance evaluations.
“The MCC Code School will improve the Omaha information technology workforce, giving area companies greater options when hiring,” said Randy Schmailzl, MCC president. “We are all about partnerships, and the new Code School already has wonderful partners on board that will see their employees get the skills needed to help them grow.”
Classes will be offered in the Millwork Commons area of North Downtown Omaha, giving greater access to some of Omaha’s most influential organizations.
