Jonathan E. Zimmern MBA Memorial Scholarship

The Jonathan E. Zimmern MBA Memorial Scholarship was established by friends and family to assist students majoring in accounting.

Zimmern came to the United States as an infant in 1938, after his father was released from a Nazi camp in Germany. The family settled in Newburyport, MA where the elder Zimmern opened a sign supply business. “Jon” didn't join the family business after graduating from high school; instead, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Boston University and then entered the Air Force in 1961. By 1965, he was working with the U.S. space program as part of his Air Force duties. Zimmern helped train astronauts for some of the early space flights, working with the likes of Neil Armstrong and Alan Shepard. Mr. Zimmern taught accounting classes at Metropolitan Community College for more than 20 years.
