Michele Missel Scholarship

Michele Missel

The Michele Missel Scholarship was established in memory of Michele Missel - Wife, Mom, and Mimi - in 2022 by her family. Michele passed away after a valiant battle against Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML).

Michele devoted her life to her family and to helping as many other people as she could. As a LICSW (Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker) she served her community helping individuals of all ages, especially children and youth. After her two daughters were born, Michele started college at Metropolitan Community College (MCC), while working part-time as a social worker for the state of Nebraska. She continued her studies while her girls grew up, and received her associate degree from Metro, a bachelor’s degree in social work from Dana College, and in 2002, she received a master’s degree in social work from the University of Nebraska Omaha. Education, teaching, and youth were Michele’s passion and she loved teaching her sociology class at MCC, where she was an instructor since 2005.

Michele loved life, being with family and friends, a great debate, and was always up for a new adventure. She was smart, vivacious, had a smile and a laugh that would light up a room, and was generous beyond words. This scholarship honors her passion to inspire and educate. She never let anything stop her and we want this scholarship to help someone in need know that they are supported and believed in.
