Amber Suttle Tjaden Memorial Scholarship

Amber Suttle Tjaden

The Amber Suttle Tjaden Memorial Scholarship was established in 2021 by the Suttle Family in memory of Amber Suttle Tjaden. Amber graduated from Burke High School in 1990 and attended the University of Nebraska at Omaha where she earned her Bachelor's degree in elementary education and teaching in 1996. She received her master's degree in higher education administration from Olivet Nazarene University in 2011. Amber worked as a teacher for Omaha Public Schools and eventually became the director of the Gateway to College program at Metropolitan Community College in Omaha. She was a devoted mother and did everything for her children. Amber was also fiercely passionate for her students, and she knew that if she could show that she believed in them, they would come to believe in themselves. She went well beyond just being a teacher and mentor; she advocated for so many to change their lives and improve their situations, and she worked to make the world a better place. The intent of this scholarship is to give students a chance to be successful.

This renewable scholarship will support tuition, books, or other materials needed for their program of study for all MCC students. Gateway to College students are preferred and while financial need is not required it is a priority.

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:

  • Full- or part-time MCC students
  • Either a high school or college cumulative 3.0 GPA at the time of application that must be maintained throughout the scholarship
  • Financial need is not required, but may be considered
