To apply for admission as an F-1 international student at Metropolitan Community College, click the Application Directions & Supplemental Items link and follow the directions. Late and incomplete applications may be denied. Please note that all F-1 students are required to have insurance through the provider that MCC selects.

Additional information:

MCC utilizes the recommendations of the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO) in identifying countries recognized as utilizing English predominately for industry, government and education.

MCC uses remote internal course placement, rather than the TOEFL. Most applicants do not need to submit a TOEFL. If you do not have reliable internet and need to take the TOEFL, please note that these countries that are exempt from submitting a TOEFL score:

  • Australia
  • Canada (except Quebec)
  • Common Wealth Caribbean (Antigua and Barbuda, the Bahamas, Dominica, Grenada, Jamaica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad and Tobago)
  • Republic of Ireland
  • New Zealand
  • United Kingdom

Steps from Admission to Attending Classes at MCC

There are four kinds of applicants. Please find the kind of applicant you are and follow the steps as listed below.

1) Prospective student applying from out of the U.S. who does not have F-1 status:

  • Gather information about MCC.
  • Apply for a passport.
  • Create an account as a prospective F-1 international student at mccneb.elluciancrmrecruit.com.
  • Click on "Create an account!”.
  • Under “Student Type”, select “International Student”.
  • Under “International Student Type”, select the type that fits your situation:
    • “Prospective F-1 student outside the US"
  • After you finish creating an account, you will need to provide proof of English proficiency, such as:
    1. an unofficial US college transcript showing a college level English class (ISS will need an official transcript from your college later)
    2. ACT/SAT score sheet dated within two years (MCC will need your official scores)
    3. an iBT TOEFL score sheet dated within two year (ISS will need your official score sheet ordered from ETS. MCC's college code is 9621)
  • If you do not have such documentation, then you will be invited to take our free English placement test through MCC's Testing Center. If you are not in the Omaha area, then the Testing Center can monitor your test through video conferencing, such as Zoom. ISS will review your scores.
  • If you score into credit ESL or higher, then you will receive a conditional acceptance letter.
  • To receive your official acceptance letter and I-20, you will need to upload the supplemental items in your application. 
  • Wait for ISS to review your supplemental items and get notice of acceptance or denial. If accepted, an I-20 and acceptance letter will be provided.
  • Pay the SEVIS fee and print a I-901 receipt for payment.
  • Make an appointment with a U.S. embassy or consulate to apply for an F-1 visa, unless you are from Canada.
  • Apply for the visa and go to the interview.
  • If an F-1 visa is granted, make travel arrangements to arrive at MCC as close to 30 days before the program start date listed on the I-20.
  • Email iss@mccneb.edu to inform ISS that you have arrived in Omaha. ISS will email two documents for electronic check in. Provide your passport, F-1 visa, I-20 and I-94 form.
  • Pay the insurance premium.
  • ISS will connect you with your assigned Success Navigator or Academic Advisor for educational planning and class registration for your academic program.
  • Attend the Orientation for F-1 International Students and New Student Orientation.
  • Attend classes.

2) Transfer (non-high school or ESL/IEP) F-1 student applying from within the U.S.:

  • Gather information about MCC.
  • Apply for admission by creating an account as a transfer F-1 international student at mccneb.elluciancrmrecruit.com.
  • Click on "Create an account!”.
  • Under “Student Type”, select “International Student”.
  • Under “International Student Type”, select the type that fits your situation:
    • “Transfer F-1 student"
  • After you finish creating an account, you will need to provide proof of English proficiency, such as:
    1. an unofficial US college transcript showing a college level English class (ISS will need an official transcript from your college later)
    2. ACT/SAT score sheet dated within two years (MCC will need your official scores)
    3. an iBT TOEFL score sheet dated within two year (ISS will need your official score sheet ordered from ETS to ISS using our college code: 9621)

  • ISS will connect you with your assigned Success Navigator or Academic Advisor for educational planning and class registration for your academic program.
  • Attend the Orientation for F-1 International Students and New Student Orientation.
  • Attend classes.

3) Prospective student applying from within the U.S. who has a status other than an F-1 and wants to apply for a change of status to F-1:

  • Gather information about MCC.
  • Apply for admission by creating an account as a Change of Status to F-1 international student at mccneb.elluciancrmrecruit.com.
  • Click on "Create an account!”.
  • Under “Student Type”, select “International Student”.
  • Under “International Student Type”, select the type that fits your situation:
    • “Change of Status to F-1 student"
  • After you finish creating an account, you will need to provide proof of English proficiency, such as:
    1. an unofficial US college transcript showing a college level English class (ISS will need an official transcript from your college later)
    2. ACT/SAT score sheet dated within two years (MCC will need your official scores)
    3. an iBT TOEFL score sheet dated within two year (ISS will need your official score sheet ordered from ETS to ISS using our college code: 9621)

  • We recommend that you consult an immigration lawyer to submit your application for a change of status to USCIS. ISS will not send the application for you.
  • Wait for USCIS to grant or deny the change of status.
  • If F-1 status is granted, email your approval notice to iss@mccneb.edu
  • Email iss@mccneb.edu to inform ISS that you have arrived in Omaha. ISS will email two documents for electronic check in. 
  • Pay the insurance premium.
  • ISS will connect you with your assigned Success Navigator or Academic Advisor for educational planning and class registration for your academic program.
  • Attend the Orientation for F-1 International Students and New Student Orientation.
  • Attend classes.
