Non-credit English As A Second Language (ESL)

Esta información esta disponible en Español

Non-credit ESL is offered quarterly through the Adult Education Program and is intended for literacy level non-English speaking students. The English taught in noncredit ESL classes targets students who do not speak any English or speak English at an elementary school level. The classes focus on basic English skills and survival English skills. Students who can already communicate in English in their communities should consider continuing to improve their English speaking and writing skills in CREDIT ESL CLASSES. These non-credit classes are available only to Nebraska residents. Child care is not available and children are not allowed in classes. Students must be 18 years of age or older and live in Nebraska to enroll in noncredit ESL classes. Through generous support from the Nebraska Department of Education and private foundations these courses are offered free of charge.

Enrollment Process For New Students

Non-Credit ESL classes are offered during the Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer quarters at Metropolitan Community College. Students should enroll in classes only if they can commit to attending the entire 11 week quarter. Classes are held at various locations throughout the metropolitan Omaha area. Additionally classes are offered at the Fremont Area Center in Fremont, NE. (To enroll in noncredit ESL classes in Fremont you must call 402-721-2507.)

For classes held in the Metropolitan Omaha area, new students must complete the enrollment process in order to attend a non-credit ESL class.

The enrollment process includes taking the Best Plus Assessment Test and attending an Orientation/Registration Session on the same day.

Please allow extra time (up to 3 hours) in your schedule on the day you attend.

The enrollment process begins one month before the start of each new quarter. New student testing, orientation and registration is held during August, November, February and May.  See below to view the Quarter Calendar, BEST PLUS Testing Schedule and Orientation/Registration Schedule.

New students cannot attend class unless they have completed the BEST PLUS testing, Orientation and Registration Session.
