A desire to help MCC through his business contacts gained through more than 30 years as a business owner, accountant and attorney led Tony Sorrentino to serve on the MCC Board of Governors representing District 3 from 2009 through 2012. He is principal and shareholder in the SilverStone Group Incorporated, an insurance brokerage and consulting firm, and is responsible for regulatory compliance in the areas of employee benefit, retirement and investment law.
Because the demographic of the student population is changing so rapidly and the needs of potential employers in the four county region are becoming more specialized, Sorrentino would like to explore partnerships between local employers and MCC for jointly funded curriculums that meet student needs and those of the employers. Working with human resource managers on a daily basis gives Sorrentino insight as to employer recruitment and retention policies that are invaluable to MCC in assisting their students to be successfully placed upon graduation.
“There is a misconception that the majority of jobs in the area require four-year degrees; to the contrary, there are more opportunities for candidates with the specialized training that MCC offers. This type of curriculum, offered at affordable prices, is a must for continued economic growth of this region”.
Sorrentino, an Omaha native, holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Creighton University and a Law degree from the Creighton University School of Law. In addition, he is a Certified Public Accountant and holds the designation of Certified Employee Benefit Specialist from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In addition, he is a part-time instructor at Creighton University.
Sorrentino currently serves on the Board of Directors of the SilverStone Group, as the president of the Board of Directors of the Nebraska Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and as vice president of the Board of Directors of the Omaha Chapter of Legatus, an international organization of practicing Catholic business professionals and their spouses.
Sorrentino and his wife, Kate, have four children and are members of St. Robert Bellarmine parish. In his free time, he likes to golf and is an avid long distance runner.
