Economic Downturn, Turn to MCC

Spring 2009 | Archives

students There is no question that in this economic downturn, unemployment is topping the charts, and people are having difficulty finding and maintaining good careers. The real question is how MCC is helping the community at this time.

MCC´s Career Center staff is available to help students and community members in MCC´s four-county service area find careers at which they can excel, upgrade their marketability, transition to new employment and understand skills that directly and indirectly relate to a profession. The Career Centers offer many services including career assessments, career exploration, résumé and cover letter review, basic job search assistance, interviewing techniques and educational planning.

students New this year, the Career Center staff has a series of career presentations on topics ranging from civic engagement to social capital. With an eye to the economy, the staff created presentations in conjunction with business leaders and community members. Presentations earlier in the year included Using an Online Career Center, Job Search 101, Investing in Your Social Capital, The Fork in the Road – Deciding on a Career Pathway and The Money Coach – Making Sense of Your Dollars.

All of the presentations are free and open to the public. Consider attending a workshop or stopping in to visit one of the Career Centers at MCC´s South Omaha Campus, Fort Omaha Campus or Elkhorn Valley Campus. Presentation topics for the upcoming months are:

  • March – Ethics Awareness
  • April – Physical Wellness
  • May – Older Americans
  • June – National People Skills
