Jumpstart to College = Savings

Spring 2009 | Archives

CollegeNOW! In these difficult economic times, it is more important than ever to be responsible with your money; at the same time, it is vitally important to be the best qualified you can be for a job. There is no better way to do that than to have a solid education.

MCC is ready to support our community in meeting these needs, and one of our strongest initiatives is through Secondary Partnerships—programs designed to get high school students into college early and affordably, preparing them for the future.

Secondary Partnerships supports the career development and successful academic transition of students from high school to college. Students have the opportunity to earn college credits while still in high school through dual enrollment, advanced placement, high school transfer credit or programs like our Career Academies where students attend a sequence of career classes with a cohort of their peers, many of which culminate in a specialist diploma.

CollegeNOW! is the premier program of Secondary Partnerships specifically designed for high school students to get a jumpstart on their education. CollegeNOW! began Spring 2007 with select courses open to high school juniors and seniors. The program has been so successful and the importance so widely recognized that MCC expanded the program this year to all courses and any high school student.

Further enhancing the benefit of our Secondary Partnerships programs is the affordability. For the past year, MCC has offered reduced tuition—a 50 percent discount—to high school students in our four-county service area of Dodge, Douglas, Sarpy and Washington. Through a resolution by the MCC Board of Governors, in March this discount will extend to high school students across Nebraska providing the best opportunities and a solid foundation for the future workforce of Nebraska.

MCC continues to expand opportunities to all members of our community with youth representing just one area. To learn more about what MCC has to offer, visit www.mccneb.edu.
