Spring 2009 |
MCC is gearing up for the fourth annual Great Plains Theatre Conference.
May 23-30 hundreds of theatre enthusiasts will arrive in Omaha for a week of
collaboration, conversation and camaraderie.
This year is a celebration of women in theatre. The Conference is honoring
Theresa Rebeck, a playwright, novelist and screenwriter. Rebeck is a widely
produced playwright and Pulitzer Prize finalist. Two evening performances will
be dedicated to the works of Rebeck and include talkback opportunities. Other
special events honoring women include panels discussing the impact of women
playwrights on American theatre and women directors and conversations
featuring prominent women in the theatre.
In addition to the special performances and events, the heart of the
Conference is the play labs. Each year hundreds of playwrights submit their
plays in the hopes of being selected for a play lab at the Theatre Conference.
The labs feature readings of the playwrights´ works performed by local
theatre groups and reviews by a panel of prominent theatre professionals and
audience members. This year the five top plays were selected for the MainStage
Series and will have featured play labs Thursday through Saturday with Rebeck
serving as a panelist.
