Spring 2012 |
Local Flavor, a new cooking show produced by MCC, began airing on The
Knowledge Network of Greater Omaha (Cox Channel 18) in February. The show
features MCC chef and instructor Oystein Solberg prepping and plating meals
made with an array of local ingredients from the MCC Horticulture gardens and
eastern Nebraska/western Iowa growers and producers.
After attending a four-year culinary school in Norway, chef Solberg worked in various Norwegian kitchens, including the Norwegian Embassy in France. There he met a woman from Omaha, accompanied her back to the United States and eventually found himself behind the stove at MCC.
Episodes were filmed in the Metropolitan Utilities District culinary theatre at MCC's Institute for the Culinary Arts. In addition to filming Local Flavor, the culinary theatre is used for credit and noncredit classes, as well as workshops
and professional development.
