Summer 2009 |
Metropolitan Community College Corporate Education & Training (CET)
Division, in partnership with the Pennie Z. Davis Early Childhood Development
Center at the Jewish Community Center (JCC), will offer on-site Early
Childhood Education credit courses for JCC´s staff members. This
partnership will enable participating staff members to earn an Associate
Degree in Early Childhood Education.
CET initially partnered with the JCC to offer this unique program as a
result of JCC´s interest in providing employees with educational
opportunities to benefit the staff and the future of JCC. Carole Greenberg of
the Pennie Z. Davis Childhood Development Center is excited about the
opportunity to partner with MCC´s CET Division.
"The Pennie Z. Davis Childhood Development Center is committed to
furthering our staff´s educational careers. We are currently going
through our second National Association for the Education of Young Children
(NAEYC) accreditation experience and wanted a learning program that would
serve the needs of our staff that work full-time. It is important to us to
make the transition of going back to or continuing education a smooth
one," said Greenberg.
The opportunity to participate in this customized program is open to all
full-time childcare workers at JCC´s Pennie Z. Davis Early Childhood
Development Center. Once enrolled in the program, participants have a
dedicated academic advisor through MCC and access to all MCC services free of
charge. The program takes approximately two years to complete with courses two
evenings a week at the JCC.
This partnership program not only benefits JCC´s employees, it also
benefits the children and the community. Not all children in the childcare
center are Jewish; they welcome all denominations. By providing education to
their workers, JCC is able to provide even better care to children in the
community. It also creates a sense of excitement and motivation among
JCC´s employees about their career. They will be able to work, learn and
implement what they learn together as a team in one location.
