Nurses UP! is a collaborative educational opportunity provided by Omaha
Area Health Education Center (AHEC), Arbor Education and Training and MCC.
Nurses UP! is a specialized program that offers students the opportunity to
earn 15.5 college credits in 11 weeks, along with clinical practice to apply
their knowledge hands-on in a real-life setting. Internships allow students to
connect with potential employers and are held at area hospitals and medical
centers. Upon completion of the program, students are trained in Certified
Nursing Assistant (CNA), Medication Aide (MA), Basic Life Skills (BLS) and
employability skills focused on the healthcare field.
A career fair is held at the conclusion of training. The first class to
complete this program had a 100 percent placement rate! With healthcare
professionals constantly in demand, Nurses UP! is a great option for
individuals wanting to gain experience in the healthcare field or for those
looking to pursue healthcare-related degree programs. Area clinics, hospitals
and healthcare organizations benefit from the well-rounded and educated
students completing the Nurses UP! Program.
The program proved rewarding for students. One student found herself
looking for the next step in her career after being laid off by her employer.
She commented, "If you proceed with this program, stay positive, get
yourself a support team and always have a backup plan. I am so thankful for
the opportunity that saying ´thanks´ is just not enough. I am on
the road back to self sufficiency and to have my family and friends proud of
me is a feeling I will not soon forget."
The program is currently in the initial assessment stage and is not yet
open to the public for enrollment. The Nurses UP! Program will be open to the
public for registration on a quarterly basis following the assessment phase of
