MCC: Changing to Serve Your Needs

MCC is poised to meet the needs of the community through changes to three departments: Business & Training Services (BTS), Continuing Education and the Office of Public Affairs.

Formerly Corporate Education & Training, the Business & Training Services Division provides career skills training for businesses, organizations and individuals. Collaborative partnerships are at the heart of the division. Partnerships with Goodwill, the Omaha Housing Authority and other organizations help MCC train individuals for the jobs employers need. BTS also works with businesses to build and facilitate affordable, customized workshops and training programs on site at the business location, online or at any MCC location. Specific training areas include business management, customer service, interpersonal skills, information technology and leadership development.

Continuing Education provides individuals of all ages a variety of learning opportunities. Noncredit classes help students build computer skills, learn a language, repair a house or write a résumé. Other classes provide personal enrichment, like learning to dance, trying watercolor painting or improving mental and physical health. MCC offers half-price tuition to individuals ages 62 and above for most classes. For younger learners, the College 4 Kids program offers summer classes for 3- to 11-year-olds, while College 4 Teens offers classes for teenagers.

To better meet the needs of the community, Continuing Education now offers a full spectrum of online courses via Education to Go. The six- to eight-week courses are taken entirely over the Internet, giving students the flexibility to study around their schedule. Languages such as French, Japanese and Italian are popular options.

The new Office of Public Affairs serves as a liaison among the College, the media and the general public and works to build awareness of and pride in MCC and its people, programs, research, teaching and events. Public Affairs reaches out to individuals ages three and up as MCC promotes education from College 4 Kids through lifelong learning initiatives.

Through the areas of Marketing and Public Relations and Community Affairs and Outreach, Public Affairs works to foster open and honest communication with MCC's key internal and external stakeholders and help MCC forge mutually beneficial relationships with individuals and organizations vital to growth and development.
