New Facilities Bring Industry-Relevant Training to Four-County Service Area

Summer 2011 | Archives

Labs and classrooms are expanding MCC's programs in multiple communities this year.

MCC Opens Blair Location
After six years of planning and promoting with public and private partners, MCC opened its newest location in Blair to serve the communities in Washington County. Opened in Spring 2011, the Washington County Technology Center houses programs developed in partnership with local industry to create a pipeline of qualified candidates for local jobs.

The new center is the result of industry and community partnerships including: Cargill, Evonik, Natureworks, Novozymes, Omaha Public Power District, City of Blair, Washington County and Gateway Development Corporation. Those partners helped inform the curriculum and training for the Process Operations Technology program housed at the center. Students receive hands-on training in the process operations lab, while additional classrooms provide support courses for other MCC degree programs.

Weatherization Training Center Opens
With funds from a $600,000 grant from the Nebraska Energy Office, MCC opened a Weatherization Training Center with the Laborers-Contractors Union to provide courses on residential weatherization theory, construction methods and installation techniques. Classes began this spring to train individuals in this growing industry that ultimately reduces energy consumption and costs for homeowners or businesses.
