Summer 2012 |
The Path to Graduation
Hometown: Omaha, Neb.
Academic Program: Human Services
Graduation isn't something unfamiliar to Cecilia Newton, an MCC Human Services major. She graduated from cosmetology school and worked at a salon up until she started at MCC in September 2010. She plans to graduate from MCC in September 2012 with an applied science degree.
"I hope to be a counselor or social worker and possibly get a bachelor's degree," said Newton. "I've always wanted to help people."
Among the many reasons Newton chose MCC was because she wanted a college with a diverse student body. "I was looking for a college that was more in my age bracket," said Newton. "I definitely found that at MCC. Since starting, I have made friends that are 18 to 50 years old."
She also loves her advisor and her instructors. "The instructors give you a clear understanding of what is expected of you," said Newton. "If you feel like you are in a rut, they take time out of their day to explain what needs to be done. MCC provides a friendly, warm, inviting atmosphere."
Newton loves some instructors so much she makes an effort to take the courses they offer as often as possible.
"I can't say enough good things about MCC," exclaimed Newton. "Every instructor I've had has impacted my life tremendously. They don't know the confidence I have now that I didn't have before."
