Pass to Class Receives A+

Winter 2009 | Archives

Pass to Class card A new pilot program, Pass to Class, partners MCC with Metro Area Transit (MAT) to provide quarterly bus passes to MCC credit students. The passes are valid while MCC is in session and can be used to travel to and from MCC locations and for other education-related purposes along established MAT routes. The program is the first of its kind in Omaha and is a great success.

Pick-up for the Fall quarter bus passes began Oct. 5 at the Fort Omaha and South Omaha campuses, and during the course of the quarter, MCC handed out 461 passes. Tracking by MAT indicates that MCC students took 13,214 rides through the program.

MCC and MAT initiated this mutually beneficial program to increase students´ access to classes, decrease MCC´s parking congestion and increase passengers for MAT. Another program goal is to help reduce single-occupancy vehicle trips and thereby decrease emissions.

Part way through the Winter quarter, MCC and MAT will conduct a review of the program´s operating parameters, ridership and student comments to determine if the program will be offered in subsequent quarters and if there are any adjustments needed to improve the program.

Winter quarter passes are now available for pick-up at any MCC Student Services for current credit students. For more information, visit www.mccneb.edu/mat.

´MAT is excited to partner with MCC on the Pass to Class program. The results to date are very encouraging. We at MAT have a history of partnering with MCC and value the relationship. This program is just another example of how working together we can bring innovative ideas that benefit our entire community."
