Going Back to Schoolas a Full-time Mom

Robyn Stover

Vital Stats

Hometown: Elkhorn, Neb.

Academic Program: Liberal Arts – Academic Transfer

Achievements: As a business transfer student from MCC, Stover received a full-tuition Archway Scholarship to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University.

Robyn Stover used to drive by MCC's Elkhorn Valley Campus and think about taking classes. Although she had plenty of work experience, she found her opportunities for advancement were limited at her company—she lacked a college degree. When she became a full-time mother of two, she decided it was time to go back to school. MCC was the logical choice.

"I was impressed with the instructors," she said. "I liked the smaller classroom setting and the personable faculty."

Stover graduated from MCC with an Associate Degree in General Studies. She wanted to continue her education and was drawn to Nebraska Wesleyan University's (NWU) Omaha program. Through MCC's partnership with NWU, Stover received a full-tuition Archway scholarship to pursue a bachelor's degree in Business Administration. NWU also offers an automatic $1,000 Bridge scholarship when MCC graduates enter a bachelor's degree program.

"The smaller atmosphere makes for an easy transition into the program. I love the instructors because they apply their jobs to the classroom—it makes understanding the material so much easier," Stover said.

With another degree under her belt, Stover will have the credentials she needs to move forward in her career. On the way, she is showing her 10-year-old twins the importance of higher education.

"To get a job I enjoy to put my kids in college—that's my goal," she said. "My kids are seeing me meet my goal as well. They see my determination and dedication."
