Determine Your Goals and Develop a Plan
|
- Identify and research the career field: Ask yourself questions – Is it an area of strong interest? Will you be happy in this field? What skills are needed?
- List career goals: Define and write them down in order of priority.
- Establish benefits and advantages of achieving the goals: List the factors that motivate you and your abilities once each goal has been obtained.
- List the key steps to achieving your goal.
- Establish a timeline: When will you complete this goal? Include deadlines.
- Identify resources and ask yourself questions: What type of support do I need and from whom? What resources do I need (e.g. time, money, contacts)?
- Record outcomes and reflect: Record the progression working toward the goal and what worked or did not work along the way.
