Students that are unable to meet prerequisites for AUTT 1010 are required to take this class. This class is designed to allow students the opportunity to demonstrate that they have the mechanical aptitude and basic skills required to work on cars. There is a limited amount of instruction given in this class. The majority of the class time is spent in lab disassembling a car. Failing this class prevents the student from entering the program. This class does not teach students how to work on cars. This class is closed enrollment and is only offered during the summer quarter.
Students who participate in this entry-level internship will have the opportunity to apply introductory skills, knowledge and techniques in a working and learning environment, while gaining on-the-job training at an approved work site. Students who are involved with MCC Technical Academy may register for this course.
This is a basic automotive course designed for students that have little or no experience with tools and with working on cars. A variety of work will be assigned from taking a car apart to using shop equipment. This class is required for entry into the automotive program. Students that can document their work experience can challenge this class.
This beginning class is introductory in nature. It deals with many of the basic elements of the auto repair trade. Items covered are chemicals, safety, fasteners, micrometers, tires, lubrication, cooling systems, bulb replacement, fluid changes, belts and manuals. Basic electrical theory is covered, including Ohm's law and basic DC circuits. Through the use of specially designed electrical trainers and hands-on experience, electrical systems common to the automobile are investigated. The fundamentals of automotive computers and their relationship with sensor inputs and actuator outputs are studied along with advanced diagnostics procedures of electronic body electrical systems. Diasassembly, testing, servicing and reassembling of starters and alternators are practiced. The design, operation and testing of anti-lock brake and transaction control systems are also included in this course.
