The student obtaining this specialist diploma will be able to identify 75 cut flowers and foliages and 75 houseplants as well as having a basic knowledge of plant functions. The student will be proficient in designing fresh, dried or silk arrangements appropriate for everyday, party, wedding and sympathy occasions. The student will also be exposed to other topics such as bonsai, ikebana, aromatherapy and the growing and propagation of both greenhouse and outdoors plants.

This is an option for students that might not be interested in becoming a designer. The students will study turfgrass, fertilizers, soils, water, ecosystems, design concepts, design history, reasons for pruning, pests of the landscape, water gardening and interiorscaping. These classes will provide students with an opportunity to continue toward a Certificate of Achievement in Landscape Management.
