Summer Schedule
The program is held for 7 weeks during the summer at 7 different locations in our 4 county service area:
- One week in Blair at Arbor Park Middle School
- One week at Bennington Elementary School in Bennington
- One week at North Middle School in Millard
- One week at the Fort Omaha Campus
- One week at Gretna Elementary School in Gretna
- We skip the week of July 4th
- One week at Palisades Elementary School in Gretna
- One week at our South Omaha Campus (27th & Q St.)
There is a place on the application to check the locations where you would be willing to teach. More is better — this helps you be employed more weeks.
College for Teens
College for Teens will be offered at serveral locations during July, 2012 for ages 12-15. The Teens' classes will be offered Monday through Fridays — times and location will depend on instructor availability. Each Teens class will be offerec only once or twice during the summer. These summer classes are for enrichment and fun and not intended to be college preparatory.
College for Kids
College for Kids students enroll for one week at a time. Each class is priced separately, so they may enroll for 1, 2, or 3 classes in any given week. They may enroll for 3 different weeks taking only one or two classes per week — it's their choice.
The program is from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Monday through Friday each week, with 3, hour long class periods in that time frame. They may enroll for a 9-10:00, 10-11:00, or 11-12:00 class.
The hour long classes are offered for 3 different age groups:
- 6-7 year olds
- 8-9 year olds
- 10-11 year olds
There will be more than one class to choose from for each age group for each hour long time slot. Each instructor is asked to adjust your curriculum so that you can teach all three age groups each day - giving you the possibility of 15 hours of teaching per week. Preschool and High Five classes are the exception. They meet in the same room with one teacher from 9:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Monday through Friday each week. The maximum class size is 20 students. If we have additional students on a waiting list we will contact you before adding any additional students.
Instructors
Instructors will submit ideas for classes to the coordinator with their application and will write their own lesson plans if selected. Some instructors return each year, but we are always looking for new ideas and topics. Being able/willing to teach more than one kind of class will be a benefit. We can alternate classes which gives you the opportunity to teach more weeks. In order for your application to be considered, you must give us specific class titles with a detailed description of what you will teach during the week. There is a place on the application to give us this information. Please give us as many as you have - you never know which one might be just the one we need to round out the offerings. If we already have your application and you have additional classes you would like to propose, please email me with your additional ideas.
We would like to be able to hire everyone for the full 7 weeks, but our enrollment will not support it. The enrollment varies from location to location, so at the locations with higher enrollment we will schedule more class choices for each age group - thus needing more teachers those weeks. All classes are subject to cancellation if enrollment minimums are not met. We try to provide teachers at least 4 weeks of employment with the possibility of more depending on topics needed in a given year.
College for Kids is a great way to spend part of your summer. The classes are fun with lots of hands on activities and new experiences. The kids want to be there and have a great time. Many stay with us from Preschool all the way through to age 11. If you would like to fill out an application please go to http://www.mccneb.edu/ce/c4kapp.doc
After filling out the application, please save it as an MS Word document and email it to tmorgan@mccneb.edu .
