Join us for another wonderfully unique tour of the best of the Lincoln area! The downtown haymarket farmer's market will be the first stop. Shop for lots of local items, everything from kolaches, to jams, jellies, breads, coffees, teas, pies, to flavored popcorn. Then there's handmade soaps, jewelry, glassware, furniture, yard art, local grown plants, flowers .and so much more. This will also be a chance to visit the shops of the historic Haymarket district. See lincolnhaymarket.org/events/farmers-market After free time at the farmer's market, enjoy lunch at Bread & Cup, featuring homemade soups, sandwiches, salads and more. Our next adventure takes us to the rural Lincoln area where we explore the actual farms that produce the foods and wines at the local markets. Just a short drive from Lincoln, Robinette Farms of Martell, will be our first stop. Visit a small family farm growing over 80 varieties of vegetables, grass fed sheep, pastured poultry, pigs and a couple beehives. See robinettefarms.com. Greenglade Goat Farm will be a chance to learn how the goat's milk is made into cheese and to try their exclusive feta, queso blanco (garlic, dill, jalapeno) and 5 varieties of cheese spreads. A quick tour of the McCown's Victorian home is offered too. A wunderful view of the Lincoln skyline and surrounding fields will be seen as we sip wine at WunderRosa Winery of Roca. Roger's Red won a silver award this year, try their Bocelli white and several others during our wine tasting. Nebraska's Jisa cheese, Wimmer's sausage and French bread will be available for purchase for a snack. See wunderrosawinery.com. The Chisholm Family Farm of Elmwood, NE is our final stop for ice cream sampling at the on-site creamery. The farm has grass-fed Jersey cows producing milk and heavy and light creams. Shopping at the farmer's market at your own expense, as is the lunch (order off menu). Wine tasting (optional)at WunderRosa is $5 for 4 samples, keep the signature glass. Greenglade Goat Farm is $5 each for the tour/cheese sampling (refundable with a cheese purchase). Tour leader is Lynnette Staroska. Leave promptly at 7:30am, arrive back at the Sarpy Center approximately 8:30pm. Moderate walking.
