What Occurs During the Competition?
The ICA Invitational is composed of two contests, the Culinary Skills Competition and The Hospitality Knowledge Bowl.
Teams participating in the Culinary Skills Competition demonstrate their creative abilities and culinary skills through the preparation of a three-course meal in 60 minutes. Their performance during the practical session is observed and rated by judges from leading post-secondary colleges and universities, local chefs and restaurateurs.
Teams Participating in the Hospitality Knowledge Bowl demonstrate their knowledge of the restaurant and food service industry by a competing in a question and answer "Jeopardy" style event.

Registration and Pre-Qualification
Registration and Pre-Qualification Purpose:
-
The ICA Invitational will be able to accommodate a total of 24 teams, due to physical limitations of the competition site. If more than 24 teams submit pre-registration request, the pre-qualification may be used as an elimination platform.
-
The benefit of submitting information regarding the teams’ plan for competition 3 weeks prior to the competition are:
- the “paper work” of the competition will be complete, thus allowing the team to concentrate on their culinary skills, team work, timing and presentation of their selected menu
- to mentor teams and allow them to make suggested changes that would improve their opportunity to meet or exceed all standards in the competition
.
Registration and Pre-Qualification Procedure:
-
Teams will submit, on the forms below, their desire to participate in the Culinary Arts Invitational - Pre-Registration. Team members can be changed after submission. Team members do not have to be from the same high school, however, they must be sponsored by a high school teacher or industry mentor.
-
There will be a minimal registration fee of $25 per team. This will help confirm commitment to participation in the Culinary Arts Invitational and cover some dministrative costs. The registration fee of $25 is non-refundable, unless there are more than 24 teams pre-registered and teams are eliminated through the pre-qualification process. Checks should be made payable to: ICA Invitational
-
-
-
Registration and Pre-Qualification(optional) information must be postmarked, emailed or hard copy received by January 11, 2008 to the competition coordinator, Joellen Zuk ( jzuk@mccneb.edu) or P.O. Box 540513 Omaha, NE 68154.
-
Pre-qualification information (OPTIONAL, only if submitted) will be returned to all teams by February 1, 2008, thus allowing 3 weeks to adjust and fine tune their entries and prepare for the invitational.
INTENT TO PARTICIPATE - DUE NOVEMBER 30, 2007
This form acknowledges the Intent to Participate in the Invitational. This form also allows each school to request a MCC Institute for the Culinary Arts student to help prepare and mentor the teams in the process of; menu planning, production, plate presentation and sanitation. This is unique to the ICA High School Invitational, and was praised by the high school teachers last year.
