Thomas Riccio

Thomas Riccio is a performance creator, writer, director and Professor of Performance, University of Texas at Dallas. Formerly: Professor of Theatre, University of Alaska Fairbanks; Artistic Director, Organic Theater, Chicago; Resident Director/Dramaturg, Cleveland Play House; Associate Literary director, American Repertory Theatre. Visiting Professor: University of Dar es Salaam, University of Nairobi, and Korean National University of the Arts. Director of over 100 plays, including work at La Mama ETC, The New York Theatre Workshop, and the National Theatre of Italy. Riccio works extensively in the area of ritual, shamanism, and indigenous performance, conducting research, workshops and developing performances internationally. The Republic of Sakha (Siberia) declared him a “Cultural Hero.” He has published two books; his academic writings have appeared in numerous international journals. He was awarded the Onassis Foundation Distinction Prize in playwriting. He is the Poo Pah Doo of Dead White Zombies, a Dallas-based performance group.
