FAQs About MCC's Commencement Ceremony
MCC Commencement Ceremony
The MCC Commencement Ceremony is held annually to recognize students who have graduated or will graduate during the current academic year (Summer, Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters).
At MCC, graduation occurs at the end of each quarter and denotes the completion of a program of study. Degrees and certificates are mailed approximately four weeks after the end of each quarter to qualifying students.
When is the next ceremony?
MCC's 2012 Commencement Ceremony will be held in May 11, 2012. This ceremony is for graduates of the 2011-12 academic year for the following quarters:
- 2011-12 Summer
- 2011-12 Fall
- 2011-12 Winter
- 2011-12 Spring

What time does the ceremony begin?
7:00 p.m.
How long does the ceremony last?
Approximately 2 hours. Graduates are expected to stay until the end of the ceremony.
What time should the graduates arrive?
Beginning at 5:30 p.m., but NO LATER THAN 6:15 p.m.
What time do graduates line up?
Approximately 6:30 p.m.
What happens if I arrive late?
You will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremony.
Where do I get my cap & gown for the ceremony?
- You will be mailed a post card with instructions for getting your cap and gown after your application is processed and you are approved to participate in the Commencement Ceremony.
What color are caps and gowns?
Black. Graduates may keep their cap, gown, and tassel.
Is there any additional charge for the cap and gown?
No
What can honor society members wear?
- Members of Phi Theta Kappa, Kappa Beta Delta, Alpha Delta Omega, and the National Technical Honor Society are eligible to wear the sash or medallion of their honor society.
- Contact your honor society advisor for information on ordering.
- Order early to ensure delivery in time for graduation.
How will I know if I graduate with honors?
- To graduate with honors, a student must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above in his/her program of study.
- Honors graduates will receive an Honors medallion on a gold ribbon to wear during the ceremony, when they receive their name card.
- The medallion is theirs to keep.
Is there a limit on how many guests to invite to the ceremony?
No, but we strongly encourage families to allow plenty of time to park and find seats.
Is there a charge for family and guests, or do they need tickets?
No
Will I receive my diploma at the ceremony?
No. A diploma cover is used for the ceremony. Graduates will receive their diploma through the mail about four weeks after the term of program completion.
