Frequently Asked Questions About MCC's Graduation Ceremony

When is the next ceremony?

MCC's 2010 graduation ceremony will be held Friday, May 14, beginning at 7:00 p.m. for graduates of the 2009-10 academic year for the following quarters:

  • 2009 Summer

  • 2009-10 Winter
  • 2010 Spring

What about accommodations for special needs seating?

If you have a disability that requires an accommodation such as a sign language interpreter, wheelchair assistance or other mobility assistance for crossing the stage at your graduation ceremony, please call:

  • Terry Casey, 738-4607, before April 30, so that arrangements can be made to assist you.

If you have friends or family who require special needs seating, please contact:

  • Diana Kerwin-Kubr at 402-289-1416 before April 30 to make arrangements for seating at the ceremony.

What time does the ceremony begin?
7:00 p.m.

How long does the ceremony last?
Approximately 1 1/2 hours. Graduates are expected to stay until the end of the ceremony.

What time should the graduates arrive?
5:30 p.m.

What time do graduates line up?
6:30 p.m.

What happens if I arrive late?
You will not be able to participate in the graduation ceremony.

Is there parking available?
Parking for a fee, is available in the Civic Auditorium parking garage & parking lots adjacent to the auditorium. Street parking surrounding the Civic is available at no charge.

Where do I get my cap & gown for the ceremony?

  • You will receive a post card when you are approved to participate in the graduation ceremony.
  • After April 1st, take your post card and photo ID to any MCC Campus Bookstore to pick up your cap and gown.
  • Cap and gown must be picked up before May 3rd.

What color are caps and gowns?
Black. Graduates may keep their cap, gown, and tassel.

Is there any additional charge for the cap and gown?
No

What can honor society members wear?

  • Members of Phi Theta Kappa, Kappa Beta Delta, Alpha Delta Omega, and the National Technical Honor Society are eligible to wear the sash or medallion of their honor society.
  • Contact your honor society advisor for information on ordering.
  • Order early to ensure delivery in time for graduation.

How will I know if I graduate with honors?

  • To graduate with honors, a student must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above in his/her program of study.
  • Honors graduates will receive an Honors medallion on a gold ribbon to wear during the ceremony, when they receive their name card.
  • The medallion is theirs to keep.

Where can students purchase graduation announcements?
Announcements may be ordered at the MCC Bookstores.

Is there a limit on how many guests to invite to graduation?
No, but we strongly encourage families to allow plenty of time to park and find seats.

Is there a charge for family and guests?
No

Will I receive my diploma at graduation?
No. A diploma cover is used for the ceremony. Graduates will receive their diploma through the mail about four weeks after the term of program completion.

Will my family be able to take pictures?

  • Friends and family are not allowed onto the processional floor.
  • Professional photographers will take pictures of the graduates as they receive their rewards. These pictures are available for purchase.
  • A photographer will also be available before and after the ceremony in the Main Lobby to take optional professional graduation portraits.
  • The entire graduation ceremony will also be videotaped and available for purchase. Ordering information can be found in your ceremony packet.
