Strategic Planning Update
As enrollment continues to grow, so do the overall needs of the College. One tool the College utilizes to prepare for future needs is the Mission Achievement Plan (MAP), available online at http://www.mccneb.edu/strategicplan/default.asp. Points of interest include the Foundational Statements, Executive Summary and the specific plans for your area and cost center. Area and cost center MAPs can be found at the link provided in Section III. The continued success of the College is contingent upon the success of these plans and the efforts of each of us. If you have questions, please visit with your with your cost center manger.
Look for future communication and activities to enhance our understanding of the evolving Mission Achievement Planning Process (MAPPing) and the resulting MAP.

Printing at the College
An average tree produces about 8,333.3 sheets of paper. In 2007, the College consumed 318 trees and in 2008, 507 trees. To date in 2009, the College consumed approximately 330 trees.
For the past year, a group of College staff and faculty has been looking at ways to reduce printing costs. As one small step towards sustainability, all College printers that can be set to print double-sided (duplex) will be set to duplex as the default. The affected printers will be mostly the Konica Minolta copier/printers. Student-use printers implemented this change on Monday, Aug. 17. Staff/faculty printers will apply the change on Friday, Aug. 28.
If a document needs to be printed on one side only, the setting can be changed temporarily. For assistance or questions, directions can be found at http://kb.mccneb.edu/questions.php?questionid=67 or contact the Help Desk at 457-2900. Other suggestions to reduce printing can be found at http://kb.mccneb.edu/questions.php?questionid=3.
Observing Ramadan in the Classroom
MCC faculty and staff are encouraged to recognize that students may be observing Ramadan during the beginning of the Fall quarter. Please understand if students or guests to the College do not participate in functions involving food and drink during this time.
Celebrated during the ninth month of Islamic calendar, the fast is observed each day from sunrise to sunset. Fasting during Ramadan is one of the five Pillars of Islam, the Islamic belief requiring that Muslims perform five central duties in order to strengthen their faith. While Islam has two major sects, the Sunnis and the Shiites, all Muslims aim to realize these five pillars in their lifetime.
All American Selection (AAS) Garden Display
The AAS Display Garden open house will be held Sunday, Sept. 13, 1-3 p.m., at the Fort Omaha Campus, behind Bldg. 30. Members of the Men's Garden Club of Omaha will be available to answer questions.
The AAS Display Garden is maintained on the Fort Omaha Campus by the Men's Garden Club of Omaha. The plants featured in the garden are selected by the AAS organization as being the best new annual plants offered over the previous five years, and those that are selected to be released for 2010.
