Diane Donelson Spirit Award Nomination Deadline Approaches

Nominations for the Diane Donelson Spirit Award are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 14. The award was created to recognize an MCC employee who exemplifies the enduring spirit of Diane Donelson, a long-time MCC Board of Governors member.

There are many deserving employees who exhibit the criteria outlined in the award on a daily basis. Take the time to recognize and acknowledge their accomplishments and the spirit of their efforts today.

The award will be presented at the MCC Holiday Reception scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 14 at the Institute for the Culinary Arts.  Contact Kay Friesen at 457-2878 for submission information or email kfriesen@mccneb.edu.

Spend the Holidays with an International Student

Some MCC international students will be alone during the holidays. If you, your family or friends would like to share time with a MCC student during the upcoming holiday break, contact Barbara Velazquez at 457-2253 or bvelazquez@mccneb.edu. A gathering for friends, a meal together, an outing in the community, sporting activities or another holiday activity may make this time away from home special for a student.

Mileage Reimbursement Change

Effective Jan. 1, 2010, the mileage reimbursement rate for 2010 for College-related travel with a personal vehicle is 50 cents per mile.

Barbara Velazquez Receives Recognition

Barbara Velazquez will be recognized by the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Committee for her involvement in community initiatives and for her outstanding accomplishments in caring for others and promoting the dream of Dr. King Jr.  Velazquez's recognition will be at at the 2010 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Event Celebration, Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, 11:45 a.m. at the State Capitol Rotunda, 2nd floor.

Join Vicki Rodgers for her retirement reception Monday, Dec. 14, 2-4:30 p.m. at the Fort Omaha Campus, Bldg. 30, Room 124.

Efficient Use of Your Fridge

Keep your refrigerator clean and well stocked but do not stuff it so full that airflow is constricted; check door seals to make sure they are tight; clean condenser coils at least once a year; move away from heat-sources like stoves and dishwashers; use a fridge thermometer to check the temperature, which should be 36°-38°F.
