Quarterly Heart of Metro Award Recipient

The quarterly Heart of Metro Award was presented to long-time staff member Mary Vogt, Faculty Secretary at the Elkhorn Valley Campus. Vogt has been with MCC for more than 20 years and was recognized for her kind heart and positive attitude. Vogt supports more than 20 full-time faculty members and was recognized for her consistently helpful demeanor and skills in mediation and team-building. Congratulations, Mary!

CDL Truck Driving Training Students Celebrate Completion

MCC celebrates the accomplishments of students who recently completed the CDL Class A Truck Driving Training program at MCC. Led by instructor Rick Sandvig, the eight-week program gives students the opportunity to learn to drive semi trailer trucks and embark on a rewarding truck driving career. The completion ceremony is Aug. 2, 11 a.m. at the Applied Technology Center.

Volunteer Opportunity

The Open Door Mission is seeking volunteers for current professionals to conduct mock interviews with students of diverse backgrounds and career aspirations. Mock interviews will take place Thursday, July 28 from 9 a.m.-noon at the Lydia House, 2706 N. 21st St. East in Omaha. Addressing Conflict with Style

Conflict is a natural part of life, and yet it is something that many people are uncomfortable dealing with. In Addressing Conflict with Style, we will look at four basic styles and how each style responds to conflict. This session will cover the basic aspects and features of Windows 7. Special attention will be paid to the specific differences between Windows XP and Windows 7. Topics covered include how to login/restart/shut down, change settings for my screen (background, screen saver, font size) search for files, use new icons or short uts not presently found on Windows XP, add a printer and  delete a print job.

Office 2010 Upgrade

Come learn new options and possibilities with Office 2010! The focus of this class is to prepare Office 2007 users for integration to Office 2010. We will cover basic differences in Word, Outlook and PowerPoint. Topics to be covered include the File menu (brought back by popular demand), the new and improved Print Preview and the new options and relocations of features on the Ribbons in each application.

Second Annual Elder Fair

MCC hosts its second annual Elder and Caregiver Resource Fair on Friday, Aug. 5, to provide health and living resources for adults 50 years and older and their caregivers. The free fair will be 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at MCC's South Omaha Campus Conference Center, located at 27th and Q streets. Emerging Leaders to Host Open House

Emerging Leaders is hosting an open house "Meet and Greet Networking Lunch" on Tuesday, July 26, noon-1 p.m. at each of the main campuses. Campus and Academic Deans are invited to meet and get to know the Emerging Leaders in an informal and causal environment. So bring your lunch and join us for conversation and networking in FOC Mule Barn Room 102, SOC Mahoney Room 517A and EVC Room 307.

Weekly Green Tip

Buy adjustable sprinkler heads to maximize watering efficiency and water coverage on your lawn. If a half-circle sprinkler head could be reduced to about one-third of a circle without losing water coverage, you could decrease your watering time and save about 200 gallons of water per year. - The Green Book
