This project involved the addition of several classes related to Japanese culture and horiticulture. Classes involved were Floral Desing I and II,Greenhouse Crop Production, Interiorscaping and Annuals class.
Horticulture students will learn about Japanese culture through the development of a film about Japan and the origin of Bonsai, Ikebana, and Japanese Gardening.
The video, "Horticulture in Thailand," was developed to provide a visual review of the native plants in this tropical climate, including orchids.Included in Floral Design I, II, III and Flower Shop Operations and Greenhouse Operations, the video was filmed while the faculty membervisiteda former floral design student and her family.
The video, "Horticulture in Australia," was developed after a 10-day trip to this southern hemisphere country that represents an entirely different plantkingdom from that available to students in Omaha. Designed for use in Floral Design I, II, III and Flower Shop and Greenhouse Operations, thevideo is based on visits to a wholesaler, grower and flower shop owneraswell as the Royal Botanical Gardens in Sydney and many referencespurchasedin country.
