3-D Studio Art Class Installs Project at EVC

Jamie Burmeister’s winter 3-D Studio Arts class recently
installed this vibrant accent to the southeast hallway of the
Elkhorn Valley campus as their final class project.
If you’re walking down the southeast hallway of the Elkhorn Valley campus, be sure to look up. The long white ceiling and ventilation pipes you are use to seeing have been transformed. Jamie Burmeister’s winter 3-D Studio Arts class recently added a vibrant accent to the once plain hallway with the installation of their final class project last week.
A 115-foot bright red cloth now flows along the ceiling. Student Sean Yahnke introduced the concept for the project to the class.
“I was inspired by the work of Christo, an American artist known for wrapping and draping fabric in very large areas and over very large things” she said. “The walls and ceilings of that hallway are pretty bare and white. I wanted to bring some movement and color to the area.”
The class of six worked together on the project, writing a proposal, creating a computer-image model of the final project and securing funding for and installing the fabric, with the help of the EVC maintenance staff.
Burmeister said she is pleased with the outcome. “The students learned many things about designing, constructing and installing public art. We would love any feedback you may have regarding the piece.”
