Life Skills Offered: Anger Management, Family Relations, Mentoring, Personal/Self-Discovery.

Topics: Pre-Release Education/Reentry Preparation and Transitional Support back into the community. Participants will explore self-value and personal worth to determine methodology to change negative behaviors that hinder progress in their plan of reentry.

Duration: The program begins with the participant's expressed interest and continues as long as the correspondence provided through the program is consistent and timely. The duration of the participation for the program depends upon the participant and their expressed needs and committment to succeed.

Cost: Free

Additional Details: The harder you work on discovering your self worth and peronal value as a treasured individual, created by God, the better your chances are for total recovery from negative thoughts and actions that hinder your desire to progress.

Requirements: Persons incarcerated contact our office via mail.

Faith-based?: These services are faith based because we truly believe that an individual must develop a knowledge of spirituality in order to completely recover. Compassion in Action Inc. does not promote any specific religion or denomination, only that a person consider a deeper sense of self worth and personal value that can only come from the One who created them.

Additional Details: When you call CCCSN, one of our certified counselors will review your financial history, review your income and living expenses, assist you in developing a budget and provide you with a client action plan that is taylored for your circumstances. You will be encouraged to take an in-depth look at your financial situation and learn how to live within your budget. Your CCCSN counselor may recommend a Debt Management Program that helps you pay your debts by negotiating monthly payments to your creditors.

Life Skills Offered: Budgeting/Financial Responsibility.

Topics: Financial education subjects change monthly and address topics such as Budgeting, Credit Basics, Avoiding Predatory Lending, Credit File Management, Appropriate Use of Credit, How to Ensure Your Rights Under the FDCPA, Setting Financial Goals, etc.

Individual counseling is offered in the areas of Pre-Bankruptcy Filing Education, First Time Home Buyers Certificates, HECM counseling, foreclosure and mediation services.

Individual Debt Management Plans are also offered.

 

Duration: The education sessions can last from 1 hour to 3 hours per session. They can be attended as a series or as a single session. Debt Management Plans usually take 2 to 5 years to get the individual out of debt depending on their level of debt and available income.

Cost: The educational seminars are free and open to the public.

The bankuptcy and housing counseling have fee ranges established by the Executive Office of the US Trustee (EOUST) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Both agencies have approved Credit Advisors Foundation to provide these services. Waivers are avaialble based on need. Generally these fees run from $25 to $125.

Debt Management Plans do invlove a monthly fee if the person decides that they need the additional assistance of a counselor to negotiate repayment and track progress. These fees are also based on ability to pay and in no case exceed the state statutes for the state of residence for the client.

 

Additional Details: These services have previously been provided for the Sarpy County Probation Office for persons transitioning from incarceration back to the community.

Requirements: A desire to improve their current method of personal finance management and the willingness to be an active participant in the process.

Topics: Support is offered through a 12-week program that teaches men basic relationship skills, finance and budgeting, anger management, appropriate child care skills, etc. Please contact the Fathers for a Lifetime office for more information.

Duration: The formal program is 12 weeks. Fathers are encouraged to remain in contact with the program for support as long as necessary.

Cost: Free

Requirements: Men between the ages of 16-60 who wish to enhance their relationships with their children are invited to attend.

Topics: Omaha Public Library provides free wi-fi; free computer use for those with a library card; basic skills computer classes; free access to several databases including Tutor.com for help in education, Career Center for online career guidance, Learning Express for practice GED, SAT, Civil Service exams and more; links to websites like Nebraska Job Search, Glass Door for inside look at jobs & companies. Staff are willing to help find materials on any subject matter.

Duration: Basic computer classes generally last for an hour, pre-registration for the class is required at no cost.

Cost: There is no cost to Douglas County residents. Those who live outside of Douglas County can purchase a library card for $25 for four months or $75 for one year. Temporary resident and visitor cards are also available.

Additional Details: Omaha Public Library sponsors yearly job fairs in the spring one at Charles B. Washington Branch and a teen job fair at Swanson Library.

Requirements: Library cards are free for Douglas County residents with current address identification.

Requirements: The requirements for the You Are Not Alone program are that you must be willing to want to help yourself remain free. And to understand that it did not work your way.
