Waitlist?: Clients call into agency and put there name down on a list. A person will then call them back for a telephone interview.

Requirements:

  1. Must be a resident of the following counties in Iowa: Crawford, Fremont, Harrison, Mills, Montgomery, Page, Pottawattamie or Shelby.
  2. Client must have made at least 3 regular payments to their utility account in the past 6 months, AND meet one of the following
    Requirements:
    • A member of the household must be 62 years of age or older. OR
    • Verified medical need for utility service OR
    • Verified unexpected expense.

Requirements: Fill out an application. Pick up an application at our location, or fill it out online. There is a ten day processing time. Two forms of I.D. (ex: State I.D., birth certificate, social security card) are needed when filling out the application.

Additional Details: Aid with heating expenses (energy assistance), help buying food (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance program, formerly known as the food stamp program), is provided as well as low or no-cost health care, help with child care expenses, and cash assistance for low-income families with children 18 or younger (Aid to Dependent Children, or ADC).

Waitlist?: Calls are made when volunteers are available. Patrons can wait up to 48 hours for a call back.

Requirements: Individuals must be met by a volunteer, usually in the person's home who is seeking the help. Most parishes do not provide help more than once a year.

Steps/Process: Call the HELP line. Answer the call when it is returned. Meet with a volunteer in your home. Provide details about your circumstances.

Faith-based?: Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a lay Catholic organization. All faiths are served. It is not necessary to join the church in order to receive services.

Additional Details: Finances are limited and this is not a social service agency.

Requirements: Meet with a case worker who will determine eligibility. Together will look at where the client's income is on the Area Median Income chart & where they fall on a Homeless Risk Assessment. The initial meeting with a case worker takes about 45 minutes.

Steps/Process: Walk-in services are on a first come/first serve basis. If the client is working with a professional at another agency, the professional can call or email, make a referral and request an appointment for the client.

Requirements: To receive fuel assistance social security card, proof of income (if living with others in the same household, their social security card and proof of income are needed as well) and a current fuel bill.
