(CLEP) College Level Examination Program

A student may attempt to earn college credit in some areas by examination. The credit-by-examination is an option for those who have a strong academic record both in high school and/or college. These comprehensive examinations are electronically administered by appointment at the campus Testing Centers for individuals who are registered for and/or individuals who are currently enrolled in MCC class(es). Prior to taking any CLEP exam, a student will need to pay a fee of $80.00* plus the testing center administration fee of $15.00 for each exam. For further general information about the process, or to schedule a test see a Testing Center representative at one of MCC's locations listed below.

Testing Center Locations
Elkhorn Valley Campus Fort Omaha Campus South Omaha Campus
204 West Dodge Road 30th and Fort Street 2707 Gomez Avenue
402-289-1278 402-457-2204 402-738-4613

The minimum score recommended by the American Council on Education is used as a guideline for exam acceptance. While the credits count toward graduation, the score is not used in the calculation of a grade point average. Credit granted does not apply toward fulfillment of MCC's residency requirement for graduation.

CLEP Examinations
Each examination covers material taught in an undergraduate course with a similar title at most colleges and universities. A college usually grants the same amount of credit to students earning satisfactory scores on the CLEP examination as it grants to students who successfully complete that course.

Each examination is 90 minutes long, and, except for English Composition with Essay, consists of multiple-choice questions; however, some exams do have fill-ins.

*The CLEP English Composition with Essay Exam is offered on a continuous basis. CLEP policy states that six months must elapse between tests taken on the same subject. However, if an exception is approved, and if the school receiving the grade will accept a score from a test taken with less than a six-month waiting period then the candidate may request a letter, (on school letterhead), stating that the score will be accepted if the score criteria is met. The candidate must make sure that the letter is sent from the Records Office directly to CLEP at:

CLEP Score Release
P.O. Box 6600
Princeton, NJ 08541

The letter should be at the CLEP office prior to the test results arriving so that the second test can be scored and reports sent.

As CLEP continues to change, reviews and updates will be considered.
