Make-up Tests

  • Administered for individual and unusual circumstances.
    • Due to the space limits, entire class testing is not allowed.
    • Special testing accommodations are determined by a DSS counselor.
    • Students wishing to have special testing accommodations must work with their instructors.
    • Due to physical resources and space limitations, the Testing Centers are not able to handle all special accommodation requests.

Assessment of New Students

New Student Basic Skill Assessments: COMPASS

If English is the student's primary language, the Testing Center staff will administer the COMPASS assessment. Students who have taken the ACT and SAT exams within the last two years can also submit those scores to MCC for placement. The COMPASS can only be taken 2 times in a 2 year period. It is recommend that students visit the Academic Resource Center to review and practice their academic skills prior to taking the assessment.

Students wishing to take the COMPASS exam for another institution must schedule a remote COMPASS appointment.

New ESL Student Assessments: ESL COMPASS and Michigan

If English is the student's second language, s/he must meet with an advisor or counselor in Student Services. The advisor/counselor will then determine which assessment the individual will take. The Michigan is paper/pencil and is timed. The ESL COMPASS is computerized and there is no time limit. Practice software for the ESL COMPASS is available in the Academic Resource Center.

Placement Test SCHEDULE OPTIONS

COMPASS placement assessment is administered by appointment or on a walk-in basis. For guaranteed seating, please make an appointment. However, as long as space is available, walk-ins are welcome. The COMPASS will take approximately 2 1/2 hours to complete.

ASSET: Written assessment; for students with documented disabilities needing accommodations by appointment and DSS recommendation only at all locations.

ESL COMPASS: By Appointment only at all locations

ESL Michigan: By Appointment only at the South Omaha, Fort Omaha, Elkhorn Valley, and Sarpy Testing Centers.
