The Theatre Program at Metro seeks to educate students in the history, performance, production, and cultural impact of theatre.
As a part of Metro’s Humanities department, we emphasize the study of theatre as an example of the greatest and most diverse of human achievements and--as with all humanities study--the study of theatre encourages students to recognize and practice imagination, reflection, creativity and critical thinking. We believe in the importance of theatre in education because it addresses all learning styles, embraces all cultures, provides a forum for civic dialogue, builds community, and requires intensive and authentic engagement.
THE GOALS OF THE METRO THEATRE PROGRAM ARE:
- to encourage the study and practice of playwriting;
- to encourage the study and production of contemporary theatre;
- to promote the appreciation of and participation in theatre as a continually evolving interdisciplinary form;
- to build on the strong local support for theatre.
