The Great Plains Theatre Conference offers playwrights the opportunity to interact with, and have their work seen by top writers, directors, and actors from around the country. Five plays will be chosen for the Main Stage Series. For the playwright, this includes a $250 travel stipend, room and board, waived conference registration fee, and a rehearsal period working on the script with top local and national directors and actors. At the end of the week there will be a staged reading of the script for all the conference attendees and the public. A panel of top theater professionals will serve as respondents to the work.

Main Stage Award

One of the five plays chosen for the Main Stage series will receive the Main Stage Award, which carries an honorarium of $1000.00.

Great Plains Theatre Conference Play Labs

Seventy-five plays will be chosen for the 2009 play labs by a panel of ´blind´ readers. These scripts will be rehearsed by top local and national directors and actors, and receive a staged reading for conference attendees and the public. A panel of select theater professionals will serve as respondents to the work.

Playwrights whose scripts are chosen for the play labs must register, pay full registration, attend the conference and receive preferential admittance to all special workshop sessions and events.
