William Missouri Downs has authored 18 full-length plays, 4 books and written for such NBC sitcoms as Fresh Prince of Bel Air and My Two Dads. He has had nearly 100 productions of his plays from New York to Singapore and from Israel to South Africa, including LORT theatres like the Kennedy Center and the Berkeley Rep. Bill holds an MFA in acting from the University of Illinois and an MFA in screenwriting from UCLA.

The Polish Book of Karma

When Jerzy and Rosy Pogozelski’s daughter left their working class Chicago neighborhood to attend “Godless, liberal Harvard” they warned her that she’d return an “atheist, a communist and pregnant.” She’s back and they were right – two out of three. She’s also fallen for a refined Cambridge lawyer who thinks her last name is Coors, not Pogozelski. When both the Pope and the lawyer arrive in Chicago on the same day the daughter must learn to deal with her polished boyfriend and Polish family. In short, The Polish Book of Karma is a comedy for anyone who has ever wished they were adopted.
