Ronald McCants


Ronald McCants is an emerging playwright in residence at CenterTheatre Group. His awards and fellowships include: Craig Noel Outstanding New Play (San Diego Critics), 2010 Theater Masters Visionary Playwright Award Winner, Scott Michael Fellowship, Shank Residency at Center Theatre Group, 2009 Patté Award for “Outstanding New Play” in San Diego, Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship in Production, Lorraine Hansberry Playwriting Award (2nd place), San Diego Fellowship, Horizon Theatre Fellow, and Eleanor Frost Award.  Ronald is a SoHo Theatre Company Hub writer.  Ronald’s plays have been produced and developed at: Company of Angels Theater, SoHo Theatre in London, The Kennedy Center, Watts Village Theater Center, Theatre Masters MFA Playwright’s Festival, Dartmouth College, UCSD, and SDSU.


A Black-American man reconnects with the biological son he abandoned many years ago. As the two get to know each other, secrets from the past emerge that threaten to change everything. Can we ever know the truth of our own history? How can ghosts from our past destroy us? And how do we free ourselves from the demons that haunt us? An exploration of the Black-American experience through the prism of one father and son relationship.
