David Crespy

David Crespy David is an associate professor of playwriting in the University of Missouri-Columbia Theatre Department and co-directs its Writing for Performance program. He also serves as artistic director of its Missouri Playwrights Workshop and coordinates its Mizzou New Play Series, Mizzou on Broadway program, and MU Summer Repertory Comedies-in-Concert series. His book, The Off-Off Broadway Explosion, is published by Back Stage Books, with a foreword by Edward Albee. His play Beshert and exercises on dreamwork for playwrights may be found in Playwriting Master Class, Michael Wright, ed. (Heinemann). David has served as the chair of the playwriting program for ATHE, co-chair of the Playwriting Symposium of the Mid-America Theatre Conference, and is the Chair for KCACTF´s National Playwriting Program in Region V. Most recently his article about the Albee-Barr-Wilder Playwrights Unit appeared in Theatre History Studies, and his article on Grant Goodman and the English Alternative Theatre of the University of Kansas will be featured in Angels in American Theatre forthcoming from Southern Illinois Press. He is currently working on a critical biography of Richard Barr, the producer of Edward Albee´s plays, and a civil war romance musical entitled William and Bettie.
