Florence has an undergraduate degree in biochemistry and genetics and an M.D. She practiced in the
Northwest Territories, Hong Kong, and East Africa before eventually writing full time. Her award-winning
play Belle premiered in Toronto, toured to Ottawa, and received productions in London and New York
at the Julliard School. Home is My Road premiered at Factory Theatre, Toronto, where she is
playwright-in-residence and was awarded the Carol Bolt National Playwriting Award in 2004. Her play
Missing won the Herman Voaden National Playwriting Award in 2005 and will be read this spring in
L.A. She is currently writing her commissioned plays How Do I Love Thee? for the Stratford Festival
of Canada as well as i think i can, a play told entirely through tap dance for the Lorraine Kimsa
Theatre.
