J.M. Huscher has presented high-energy performances and writing workshops in over 20 states. He was a member of Omaha´s 2005 and 2006 National Poetry Slam teams and represented Nebraska at the Individual World Poetry Slam twice (in 2006 and 2007). The Omaha Entertainment Awards named him the 2006 Slam Poet of the Year after he won consecutive Omaha City Grand Slam Championship titles and set a new record for season wins. He is Lincoln, Nebraska´s current Slammaster. Huscher´s poems have been featured on National Public Radio (NPR) three times, and he has shared the stage with such notables as former U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser and Pulitzer Prize-winner Yusef Komunyakaa.
Previously an award-winning opinion columnist, he works as a freelance editor while pursuing graduate work in education. Huscher worked on Damien Echols´ (West Memphis Three) autobiography. He was also a compiling editor and contributor for Slamma Lamma Ding Dong (an anthology by 35 of Nebraska´s slam poets) that won the Nebraska Foundation for the Book Award for Anthology of the Year in 2006.
