John, a retired English professor, is a playwright and poet. His play, Easter´s Children, won
second place in competition among writers from five Southern states. Terrence McNally was the final judge
in the competition. Easter´s Children was given a staged reading at the Contemporary Arts Center in
New Orleans in 1987. His play, Of Two Minds, was given a staged reading at the University of
Mississippi as part of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the founding of the university.
John's poetry has been published in The Texas Review, Carolina Quarterly, Cumberland Poetry Review, Christian Century, and Poetry Now. He continues to write poetry and plays.
John, who will be eighty in May, is married, father of four children and seven grandchildren. He taught English at the University of Mississippi for twenty-two years and has a B.A. from Sewanee and a Ph.D. from the University of Virginia. John spent ten years in newspaper work, half of that time as an editorial writer in Florida.
