Leopold J. Kovar was born in Brainard, Neb., March 13,1935. A 1956 graduate of the University of Nebraska, he served in the Army and did
graduate work at the Universities of Pennsylvania and California–Berkeley. He worked in the Social Security Administration in
Philadelphia and participated in workshops led by Albert Benzwei at Theater Center Philadelphia. Kovar took an early retirement to return to
Nebraska to take care of elderly parents and since their deaths, has worked as a substitute teacher. He wrote and acted in five comic
melodramas for David City´s Vaudeville Days celebration. He has written novels, short stories and poetry but has never paid much
attention to publishing. For 55 years, he has recorded daily observations and opinions about the world around him. Kovar and his wife Martha
live in a converted one-room schoolhouse on his family farm. He has five children, 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
